Fake CAPTCHA Cleanup Case Study
Professional fake CAPTCHA malware removal and security cleanup.

01The situation
A business website suddenly began displaying a fake CAPTCHA verification page instead of its normal content. Visitors were redirected to malicious verification screens that attempted to trick users into downloading malware or granting browser notifications.
The infection damaged customer trust, reduced search visibility, and created a serious security risk. The client needed the website cleaned quickly while ensuring the malicious behavior would not return.
02How I approached it
Fake CAPTCHA Malware Removal was required after a business website suddenly began displaying a fake CAPTCHA verification page instead of its normal content. Visitors were redirected to malicious verification screens designed to trick them into downloading malware or enabling harmful browser notifications.
The infection damaged customer trust, reduced search visibility, and created a serious security risk. The client needed the website cleaned quickly while ensuring the malicious behavior would never return.
- Performed a complete server audit to identify every malicious file related to the Fake CAPTCHA infection.
- Scanned WordPress core files, plugins, themes, uploads, and the database for hidden malware and injected scripts.
- Removed malicious JavaScript, backdoors, scheduled tasks, and unauthorized files responsible for the fake verification pages.
- Identified the original attack vector, including vulnerable plugins or compromised credentials.
- Replaced infected core files with clean WordPress files and verified website integrity.
- Updated plugins, strengthened authentication, improved file permissions, and implemented additional server hardening.
- Performed multiple security scans to confirm the website was completely clean before returning it to the client.
After the cleanup was completed, I carried out additional verification to ensure the website was completely safe for visitors. Multiple malware scans confirmed that no malicious files, fake CAPTCHA scripts, or hidden backdoors remained. I also reviewed server logs, checked WordPress integrity, updated vulnerable components, and verified that search engines could safely crawl the website again. The final result was a secure website that performed normally while providing stronger protection against future attacks.
03The outcome
The Fake CAPTCHA malware was completely removed, malicious redirects were eliminated, and visitors could safely access the website again.
The website was fully restored without data loss, hidden backdoors were removed, and additional security measures were implemented to reduce the risk of future compromises.
The client regained a secure, trustworthy website while benefiting from improved server security, updated software, and long-term protection recommendations.
